dumb ads get shown on TV?
The Osim ad has really outdone itself this time. If the previous cow girls ad was bad, then the Jaslyn Tay and Ix Shen ad must be worse. Some credit must be given to the former for trying to be creative and daring in its approach to sell such a twisted product like the "I_am_galloping_on_a_donkey". Just imagine how the copywriter must have tried to squeeze every drop of pus of creativity he has in his body to come out with any sort of ad. Then when the provocative ad failed, plan B kicked in trying to rope in some celebrity appeal.
The problem with it is that it is just not believable. Alright, everyone knows how hard Ix Shen works to keep his body in shape, and Jaslyn even has her own book on "how not to get fat". But the message is far from credible since they have never used the product to achieve the body they have, and the execution convinces us even more that they were really well-paid to say what they said. Simply, it's garbage in, garbage out.
If I had a chance to do this ad campaign I think I would approach it a whole lot differently. If the product is going to look like something you don't want to try in the public, then you might want to move away from the imagery of "pumping your ass out in bed action".
The usual image for Osim products as I can remember is quite classy, and it usually shows comfort and how Osim takes care of you. Well then I suppose they should try keep to this image.
If the action is provocative then why not move it in that direction whole heartedly without being sleazy.
I would set the ad in night scene in a bedroom in a penthouse overlooking a nice seaview. Then show a lady on the igallop, wearing her sports attire showing her abs. As she moves, closeup right to her abs and see how the machine is working her muscles. her husband would then walking in and hug her from behind, putting his hands around her waist and abs, again focusing on the abs...
I haven't thought of how the ending would be, but the big idea behind it would be that this product ultimately makes you desirable, which I think might appeal to most, well to me at least. By the way, I wouldn't name the product Igallop too, perhaps I-desire would be better, since this machine literally makes you more desirable.
P.S. All ideas here are part of my (however limted) intellectual property, and being a poor student (buried in debts) please help to subsidise my school fees if you like my ideas!!!
